Beltway Bandits

These Are the Daves I Know

This tournament, run by GWU, showed that, despite common misconceptions, Maryland does know its trash. The team, named after a Kids in the Hall sketch, compteted in the finals after winning a three-way tie with UVA's Punky Vishnu and MIT Mind the Gap. The Davinator, Dave-o-rama, Davarino and Dave were no match for Michigan Gerbil, however, losing 135-280.

Sadly, no stats exist for Maryland Dumb and Dumber, Matt Colvin and Vishnu Jejjala's team. Matt demonstrated his Kelly LeBrock and Salacious Crumm knowledge, and it is rumored that Vishnu condescended to answering a question on Harlan Ellison.

Maryland A

The All-Dave team was resurrected for Penn Bowl, with "Dave-o-rama" Vacca, "Davarino" Goodman, "Davinator" Hamilton, and the honorary "Davemeister" Arthur Fleming taking the place of Adam "Dave" Fine. ACF Mid-Atlantic Regionals

Maryland A

Maryland A barely lost to Virginia by 5 points in their first encounter, but won the rematch game, stunning Virginia in the first half 270 to 25, and withstanding the inevitable second half comeback miracle to win 305-200. Two ugly protests sullied the first game, but the win in the second allowed us to claim first place on total points and differential, for our 6th tournament victory of 1995-6. Replacing Dave Goodman for this tournament as official biscuit of the MAQT was Arthur Fleming, whose -5 prevented us from answering all 20 tossups against our C team. Oh well, maybe next year.

Swarthmore Questions on the Crum

Maryland A

Both teams struggled with trash-heavy packets, but the first team ran through its preliminary bracket, dropping one game to Penn State and beating the masters team of 100 Years of Scholitude. They stormed their way to the final, only to lose to MIT on a protest trumped up by MIT's coach, Jim Bales. The protest involved a question on which MIT inexplicably rang in and gave an incorrect answer, even though the question was later deemed by Pat Friel to have no answer at all.
